We have just finished our second Seated Tai Chi class with a new member this week and our instructor popped in to share a really great story with me after the class.
Our new member came into the class relying heavily on a walking frame, leaning over and putting all of his weight on it. This meant he was having difficulty moving the frame forward and progress was slow. As our instructor spoke with him and showed him the exercises which help to strengthen and improve posture, she noticed him making a greater effort to learn the exercises. She patiently showed him how standing a little straighter, relieved the weight on the frame, making it easier to move and created less stress on his arms and back.
As he left the class, our instructor noticed our newest member using the techniques she had showed him and his exit from the room was much faster than his entrance!
